Meeting Report - December 11 2013
Our December 11, 2013 Christmas
Gala was a huge success with about 200 people attending including 24 new
members enjoying our annual Christmas buffet provided once again this year
Musical entertainment was provided by our favorite Villages entertainer "Just Mike" who performed many Christmas perennials and then, once the buffet tables were cleared, turned his attention to dancing music and joined many of our revelers out on the dance floor guiding them through line dance after line dance and then making way for some slow dance tunes.
Sign ups for the Canadian Snowbird Extravaganza on January 29, Ottawa Senator Hockey Game on March 24 and Toronto Blue Jay Baseball Game on April 1 continued and as of today we have sold out the hockey game and started a wait list, are about half way full for the baseball game and have filled 1 bus for the Extravaganza and are now starting on filling a second bus.
Our members' generosity was very much on display as we filled many large containers with food donations for the Wildwood Food Bank, collected a large amount of clothing for the Shepard's Lighthouse and filled our special Santa's sleigh full of toys for handicapped, exceptional and underprivileged children living in our tri county area.
Our special guest who has become Santa Claus every year for the past 54 years and makes it a personal quest to deliver toys to these less fortunate children in the area will this year deliver about 3000 toys ending his journey at the pediatric ward of the Leesburg Hospital on Christmas Eve in the same place he starts each year on Black Friday.
Many of the toys he delivers are donated by clubs like ours and police departments however he does spend a considerable amount of his own money [most of which he tells me, he relieves casinos of from January - November] on this endeavor so it is with great pride that The Canadian Loonies and Toonies have joined in this very unselfish gesture and partnered with Santa Claus this year.
Our $ 75.00 - 50/50 winners this month were Rosemarie Wickens, Thornbury, On (a brand new member), Bill and Linda Furse, Collingwood, On and Marilyn Rawson, London, On - the winner of the $ 41 Moncton Bankroll this month was Rita Arthur, Sudbury, On
Our next meeting is January 8, 2014 and we will have 2 speakers - John Klopfenstein from Toronto Dominion Bank and Jimmy Collins from Ayres, Cluster, Law Firm.
